Firewheel Tree Stenocarpus sinuatus
S. sinusats is a slow growing large tree up to 40 metres tall. The bark is typically greyish brown, not smooth and irregular. It is part of the Proteaceae family
The flowers are bright red flowers arranged in a circular manner around a disc-like structure which resemble “fire-wheels”, thus the common name.
It flowers between February to March.
It is found in northern coastal areas of NSW, north from the Coffs Harbour region, an in coastal Queensland through to Cairns. It is a sub-tropical and tropical rainforest species, usually found on rich soils.
The tree was planted in the Park in 1990.
